Preem and Thun Tankers Focus on More Environmentally Adapted Tankers

On Saturday, December 15, Thun Tankers names the new, environmentally
adapted tanker “Thun Evolve” in Groningen, Holland. The tanker will be long-term leased by
Preem for deliveries to the company’s depots and customers in Sweden, Norway and
Denmark. The ship will be delivered to Preem at the end of March.

Avatar Logistics AB initiates cooperation with Sand & Grus AB Jehander and buys the vessel MS Jehander 1

Our subsidiary Avatar Logistics AB and Sand & Grus AB Jehander initiates cooperation on maritime transports within the Lake Mälaren. At the same time, Avatar Logistics, from November 1st 2018, will take over ownership and the operation of Jehander vessel MS Jehander 1, including the six employees onboard. Thun Tankers & Gothia Tanker Alliance adding new build Thun Venern to the fleet

We are very pleased to announce that the product/chemical tanker M/V Thun Venern was delivered during Thursday to the Erik Thun Group, on site at the Chinese shipyard AVIC Dingheng Shipbuilding Ltd.

      

She is the third vessel being delivered in a series of six vessels, all designed by FKAB together with Furetank Rederi AB. Special attention has been focused on minimal impact on the environment, with close to 50 % reduction of CO2 emissions. This also includes full Tier III, dual fuel/LNG propulsion including LNG in port consumption, LNG for IG-boiler, battery backup (UPS) for all vital functions and special ballast water cleaning system and ice 1A. M/V Thun Venern is an intermediate tanker with a dwt of almost 18,000 tons and LOA 149.9 meters. She will be commercially managed by Furetank Chartering, which is part of the Gothia Tanker Alliance.

M/V ”Thun Eos” succesfully launched

On Saturday 16th of June, Nb. 443 was successfully launched at the Ferus Smit Shipyard in Westerbroek, The Netherlands.

The naming ceremony was performed by Sofia Wessman from the Källsson Family. After the ceremony the launching went smoothly.

”Thun Eos” is the first vessel in a series of four new vessels in the E-class. The design is a further
development of Thun Tankers’ existing fleet. Focus on efficiency, new regulations, environmental care and customers’ needs has been key when evolving the new vessels that will be built to the absolute latest design. The intention is to offer vessels where the use of LNG (natural liquid gas) as a fuel is a possibility, depending our clients’ requests.

”Thun Eos” has a deadweight of 7.999 tons and the LOA is almost 115 meters. Breadth moulded is 15,80 meters and the speed is 13 knots.

The main engine is a Wärtsilä type 6L32/6L34DF for LNG or gas oil usage and she has a nozzle fitted, 3,85 meter diameter controllable pitch propeller.

News from our joint venture JT Cement AS

We are happy to announce a couple of good news from our joint venture JTC AS.

Nova Algoma Cement Carriers Limited, has acquired a 25% ownership interest in JT Cement AS from KGJ Cement Holdings and will join the joint venture JTC AS, which owns a fleet of seven smaller specialized pneumatic cement carriers. Erik Thun will keep its part of and continue to own 50% of the company.

We welcome NACC onboard and are looking forward to work together to provide high quality services for our customers and add additional strength and flexibility.

The daily operations of the JT Cement fleet will not change as a result of the NACC investment, with the vessels continuing to be commercially managed by KGJ’s office in Bergen, Norway and technically managed by MF Shipping Group in the Netherlands.

Erik Thun is also very pleased to announce that a sister vessel of M/V Greenland has been ordered from Ferus Smit Shipyard. Delivery will be July 2019. The project will be handled by MF Shipping Group with support from KGJS project department and KGJC cargo handling team. The vessel will be an improved version of Greenland but with a somewhat larger cargo carrying capacity at 8.000 dwt. In addition, we will increase the LNG tank capacity to 200 m3, improving the steaming time on LNG.

Erik Thun AB opens new marketing department in Barcelona

Erik Thun AB are proud to announce that, due to a growing market in the Mediterranean area, we
have started a new marketing department in Barcelona. The subsidiary company Erik Thun España
S.L. was formed together with our partner Transbulk Shipping in Spain. The main task for Erik Thun
España is to market and position the Erik Thun Group on the bulk cargo market in the
Mediterranean. At the office in Barcelona, Tero Valtonen works with chartering.

Sustainability report – Hållbarhetsredovisning

Erik Thun AB has published its sustainability report for 2017. The purpose of a sustainability report is to put background to the figures in the annual report and show how the company work with sustainability in different areas. Shipping is a controlled industry and restricted in many ways by global policies and for us sustainability work is nothing new, it has constantly been an important part in how we work and do business.

We have focused on our environmental, social, and business ethical responsibilities, describing how we work proactively to analyze risk and avoid incidents and are technical innovators when it comes to clever solutions that minimize the environmental footprint.

M/V ”Ice Crystal” successfully launched

On Saturday 20th of January, Nb. 446 was successfully launched at the Ferus Smit Shipyard in Westerbroek, The Netherlands.

The naming ceremony was performed by Heléne Svensson Marmenlind, spouse of Karl Owe Svensson, Head of Logistics at Boliden AB. After the ceremony the launching went smoothly.

”Ice Crystal” is the second vessel in a series of two mini bulkers with ice class 1A and two cargo holds. The first vessel “Snow Crystal” was delivered in November 2017.

The vessels’ design is a further development of our existing vessels ”Alice” and ”Helge” and based on long experience of tailor making mini bulkers. They are planned to replace  ”Snow Star” and ”Ice Star”, that were built by the same yard about 20 years ago.The new mini bulkers are characterized by their extremely high deadweight of 5.680/6.550 tons. The breadth is limited to 13.35 meters, to be able to fit into the locks of the Trollhättan Canal, which will only be applicable for ”Snow Crystal”.

The propulsion installation consists of a 1.950 kW Wärtsilä main engine running on MDO fuel, and driving a nozzled CP propeller.
