Erik Thun Group – a sustainable Swedish partner over generations

The Erik Thun Group was established in Lidköping in 1938 by Helge Källsson and is still owned by the same family today. Our core business is shipping and our fleet of nearly 50 vessels is mainly employed in short sea shipping in Northern Europe. We have an extensive new-building program and are now in the process to take delivery of, and build, the next generation resource efficient vessels.

Our vision is to be a sustainable Swedish partner over generations. We are committed and in it for the long run, building long-term relationships with our customers. We are environmental responsible; meeting or even exceeding present and future demands. Our knowledge and experience is reflected in the quality of our performance and in our vessels.

We celebrated the 10-year anniversary of Thun Tankers BV in November 2022, and we are looking forward to the 85-year anniversary of Erik Thun AB this spring and we believe we have a bright future ahead of us.

Resource efficient tankers

Last week we announced the order of four 7999 mts dwt tankers. The ordered “Resource Efficiency Class” vessels are an addition to the two previously ordered sisters, extending the series to six identical coastal tankers. Focus on resource efficiency, environmental responsibility and logistical reliability has been key in the design process.

The six ordered ’R-class’ sisters will be built by Scheepswerf Ferus Smit BV in the Netherlands with delivery from 2024 and onwards. Please find out more in our press release.

Erik Thun Group orders 8 new vessels

We are excited to let you know that we have contracted eight new vessels to be built by Shipsveerf Ferus Smit B.V. in the Netherlands. When closing the books on 2022 and the 10-year anniversary of Thun Tankers in November, we are looking forward to the 85-year anniversary of Erik Thun AB in March 2023 and we believe we have a bright future ahead of us.

The signed contracts cover four multi-purpose dry cargo vessels with 5100 mts dwt and Ice class 1B. The remaining orders, for four 7999 mts dwt coastal tankers, are placed by Thun Tankers BV, part of the Erik Thun Group and adds to the two previously ordered resource efficient ’R-class’ tankers. You can read more about the vessels in our press release.
